Rear Hatch release cable broke!!
It appears that the cable broke midway as
both cable ends are attached to the rear
hatch mechanism and the front part is attached to the puller beside the drivers seat.. has anyone got any ideas of how to replace the whole cable..?? |

Are you sure it's broken? Can you pull from the end attached to the hatch mechanism and have a piece of cable slide right out of its sleeve?
Last time my car was between garage visits, I spent hours trying to get the hatch release to work properly. If the cable isn't held tight by being run through the bracket which the bumper bolts to, then pulling on the hatch release lever may appear to do nothing.
The cable predictably seems to rub against the bumper mounting bracket, and I guess it could eventually wear through at that point. |

Found the source of the break Ben, the cable had broken about an inch from the release lever inside the cable housing.Managed to get some new stainless steel wire from BOC gases ( stainless steel Mig welding wire) and replace.. Works a treat now.. Used a crimping tool to put a new alloy crimp on the end of the cable.
( number 8 fencing wire technology)
