Hi peeps!
Lots of views at my post, but does no one have any ideas as to the cause. There is no dodgy smoke from the exhaust and the engine sounds fine. However there is a constant billowing of smoke from out of the oil filler tube, which goes away a bit/almost completely when the engine is reving. What is the possible cause of this? Is the damn thing about to spill its guts all over my drive?
Cheers guys
Stewart

Oil breather filter/system.

Take the oil cap off. Look inside. Undo the screw. Clean the corragated stuff with petrol.

Let me know what happens. (you might wanna clean the pipe which goes back into the air system too)

To some extent smoke out the oil filler pipe at idle seems to be normal for 33s. My old engine did it, haven't checked the new engine yet.

Hi Stewart
Not to worry unless it is excessive. The 33 has a closed system with all cranckcase ventilation to the inlet manifolds. When you take the filler cap off it is simply venting to atmosphere. Any motor with highish mileage is bound to have some blowby. It won't kill it. Racing clearances? Wink If it has regular and quite definite pulse to the smoke then you might be concerned about broken rings on a piston.
I had a 1.5 where some dickhead had assembled two pistons with the gudgeon pin circlips both on one side with the result that the pins had heavily grooved the bores. It didn't smoke excessively, still went like stink and only had a light tapping noise. Bullet proof boxers.
Regards Eddie

It went away because I wiped it off, and it hasn't come back. Smile
The new motor has no oil leaks, it goes well and like the old one it doesn't use oil. I got a new economy record of 520kms from a tank just recently, something like 150kms more than the car was getting when I bought it. Shocked
To my untrained ears, something under the bonnet still doesn't sound 100% right especially before the motor's thoroughly warmed, but it's an old car and it still goes. I[t] snort[s] and buzz[es] and backfire[s] all over the city every day. (so there, Eddie Razz )
