Me being the clever chap that I am started the Escort with the crank TDC timing pin still in (f-in diesels). So bent pin and cant get it out, I have to remove the sump and grind the pin off. The only problem is to remove the sump the starter motor needs to come off and one of the 13mm bolt heads on starter motor is rounded.
My plan is to hammer a imperial socket slighly smaller onto the head. Any better ideas??
Luckily the car runs but timing on the injector pump is slightly out and with no reference for crank TDC I can't achieve that magical 60bhp.
Total cost for cam belt and tensioner pump belt and tensioner 8 valves full head set & bolts & valve seals £170 (+ £20 for M30 torx socket) so Fords do have their good points.
To get the bent valves out I had to hammer them with a lump hammer back into the valve guides, luckily it's a cast iron head and the valve guides are 4 inches of solid iron. I used to maintain my mothers Anglia 105e (reg 00 2997 - that old) and the technolgy in the Escort hasn't changed that much. Who buy's this shit new??
BTW It's a clean bordering on A1 1994 Escort 1.8 D and it cost me an Indian and a crate of Brown ale, expensive I know but me lass needed a car. |

Gary, if space is not too tight, you can cut a small groove with a hacksaw in the bolt/nut, and use a cold chissel to undo by tapping round.

Hi
Other idea is to just cut the head off, then take the starter motor out and remove the bolt then
All the best

Na the bolt holds starter one side of block & an engine bar/mount on the other running parralel with bolt about 1" space. No room for an impact driver even. Might see if I can drill it out from the other side and fit a nut and bolt though.
F-in diesels what is worng with a mark on the crank sproket. Pins are no good for stoned idiots like mesel.
And 60bhp doesn't serve as motivation 60mpg well.... |
