Hi,
Merry Xmas to all.
The last days have been harsh for me and my Alfa in terms of being water proof
You can have an idea...
Hopefully there is no sign of rust.
The hole you see is the one that allowed water to come in;the sound inslualting material between the carpet and the chassis has gone bad, is terribly smelly and has to be replaced
Here, after cleaning and drying the area, I installed the cap and sealed it with silicone that parts of it have been "spit" from the under of the car.
The same procedure has been applied to the other side as well
I need your advice in order to make it waterproof as much as possible. I've been told about a product called Underseal that it is based on tar.
and should be applied on both sides (upper and under).
Do you guys know specialised products that seal these troubles?
Thanks in advance. _________________ Thanassis Gritsopoulos

I welded 4 iron caps in the bottom to close the holes and just sprayed some dinitrol car bottom protection on. Has been there for 2 years now staying in perfect condition |

Hey there gritsop
I faced the exact same problem a couple of months ago when I had to take the carpet off from the driver's side in order to weld the floor under the seat.
We used the tar product you mention to glue the cap in place and keep it waterproof (we put some under the car as well).
Up to now it seems like it's doing a good work... |

Hi,
My car is now on the road again after the repair.
Actually I had to remove the silicone as it is unsuitable for such job.
I used car body sealant , a material which resembles the texture of honey and dries rapidly within 15 mins.
It is now waterproof and as long as the rain stops I'll wash the area of interest (the underside) and spray an special material called Gravel and Underbody protectant. Thus is actually an antirust protectant for the area that has been worked on.
Here are some photos
These are the new sound insulating materials to be placed between floor and carpet
These two photos show the grey colored sealant installed. On top of the primed area tar sheets have been properly cut and installed
Thanks for the input.

I had a cracked floor too.Under the driver's feet. The repair man said it could have been cracked from very hard shock absorbers (yellow Koni's).It had rusted a bit but he cutted the problem area and welded a new piece and sprayed it after.I had it fixed at spring time and it looks good so far. |
