hey all,

the 33 has the worst turning circle of any car i have ever driven recently. it turns most things into 5 point turns or just yanking the handbrake to get it round.
are there any 'quick racks' for the 33 series 3? or would it be possible to mod the steering arms(or some other part) to gain more lock?

i'm not after better 3 point turn performance, i intend to drift my 33 and to be able to 'catch' larger drift angles i need more steering lock.
so far i havent tried anything. i did drill a slightly larger hole in the steering rack to make the power steering faster but it doesnt add any lock of course.

are the manual racks a longer stroke than the PS ones?
i'm converting the car to rwd so the fronts wont have the cv and drive shaft etc to push round. this should make it a little lighter to turn anyway. so a manual rack is allways an option. if there is one that will do the job.

any ideas are welcome. diy/custom mods or off the shelf.

thanks in advance

L.

try some one of a sud!! Then you will steer faster without turning your steering wheels too many times

and you can steer a 75 with your power (rear wheel drive), nothing beets a 75 with steering!!

so the sud racks are faster? or there are faster racks for the suds?

i'm going to be using the car for drifting. its not steering it with the throttle that i want, i can already do that. its beaing able to hold the car at the largest amount fo steering lock possible. the more lock i have to play with the more sideways i can get. Very Happy

thanks for the tip

Hi

There was a quick rack kit available for the Sud, but not seen one for a 33.

Suspect the Sud rack is an easy fit, but think you will also need to change the column (from vague memory the splines are different from the rack to the column on the 33s with power steering).

The 75 rack is quite different.

All the best

Keith
