Hi,

Last days I have noticed tiny water drops in the oil filler cap. Then some little amount of mayo was added to the cap.

Took out the oil filler tube along with the hose that goes to the manifold sleeve and noticed small white deposit on the cells of the oil filler tube and the inside of the hose covered with white deposit.
I cleaned everything with petrol and since then nothing bad has appeared.

However yesterday night when returned home I saw these tiny drops again on the filler cap.

Any ideas? I don't want to imagine that I 'm heading for head gaskets...

Could it be the weather? It has been quite a few days that the weather is coldy and rainy ... In addition the car runs in total about 30-45 mins per days so water condensation in side the motor could be a good excuse...

Any help appreciated.

Regards

No need to be alarmed. That is if you dont have any loss of coolant. Its usual in winter to see mayo in the oil filler cup.Its only moisture becoase of the small amount of Km you drive every day.Drive a trip for more than 100Km and it will be OK.

Bill.

Hi,

Yes Bill, I don't have loss of coolant and I think you are right.

Just took a look a couple of minutes ago and the cap is clean.

Thanks.

When I got a second hand motor put in my car, there was heaps of mayo in the oil filler tube. The motor must have been sitting for ages to cause this, because after I wiped the white stuff out it never came back. I put heaps of km on my 33 now so there's no chance of condensation. Wink

like the people above say as long as there is no loss of coolant from the expansion bottle its just moisture in the engine.....
i've had this on a few cars before best thing to do is wipe the mayo off and then get the motor warm and take it for a good thrash!

Like you need any more excuse to take your alfa for a thrash!!!!!

At these latitudes that breather and mayo thing is really a problem sometimes. If there is mayo in the breather and you go for a longer drive at highway speeds, the breather tube actually freezes and the car starts jerking severely and sometimes even stops running completely. Then after waiting for 10 min the breather melts thanks to engine heat and the journey can continue for about 10km before the jerking starts again. The fix is to clean the breather frequently, remove the mesh from inside the oil filler and keep the oil level below the max mark, perhaps around half way between min and max (no hard cornering allowed then though). I suppose this is only in a very cold climate like the Finnish winter and won't affect you guys.
