|

Hi
I just noticed the local repairshop had installed an 1.7IE 8V back box onto my 16V. They also repaired the rusted curved pipe that exits the cat and joins the back box with slightly narrower pipe than the original 16V pipe.
What kind of effect is this likely to have, will power be affected a lot? It is really well welded so I wouldn't want to have it redone as the fault was actually mine since I accidentally gave them the IE end box which I got from a spares shop. I asked for a 16V box but the aftermarket producer probably has the same part listed for both 8V and 16V.
Thanks&Regards

You should be able to feel little more torque? on low rpm. If this is true then at high rpm you'll lose few hp.
All this is true only if rear box pipe is 5mm smaller then original, as it is on factory 8v vs 16v. _________________ Tino Vatavuk

Thanks Tino. At the moment I can't really test the car as properly as in summer since I have steel studded winter tyres on. As long as there is no risk of damage as a result of more pressure in the exhaust due to the smaller diameter pipe, I will just let it be as it is and next time make it out of the proper sized pipe and 16V silencer.

Hi Harri,
there is risk of damage because of more back preasure, but I think that it is rather low, few % maybe in case of non tuned 33.
There is more back pressure when catalytic converter brakes and clogs itself or one of rear 2 silencers.
How long do you think that this nwe one will last? _________________ Tino Vatavuk

I don't think normal aftermarket rear boxes generally last very long, at least the one before did not so I might just keep it as it is as long as it lasts. Then next time it might be time for a Supersprint or CSC |
