Well, its not a 33, but I finally bought a boxer powered alfa. Its an 88 Sprint cloverleaf - twin dellorto carbs.
Its got plenty of little bits of rust to keep me busy, but not too much actually needed for an mot. Its also got k&n filters, a stainless exhaust system, the engine has been ported and the dodgy springs (cut), are being replaced with a set of justsuds lowering springs.
Today ive been mostly messing around resurrecting electrical stuff like the oil pressure gauge and lights, which are nice things to have.
These are all photos of before I bought it. Ill get some pics up at some point, but I daresay ill be recording a clip of the exhaust noise tomorrow! _________________ Alfa Sprint QV - Gone to a better home and in happier health for it

Welcome to the club, Chris. Now all you need is a 16V for it.
Have fun. _________________ Ken McCarthy - 16V Sprint |

Yep - seperate filter on each carb.
They look the same as that one shown, but I havent taken them off to see if the gasket is identical.
Just ordered the lowering springs from justsuds _________________ Alfa Sprint QV - Gone to a better home and in happier health for it

Hi
Congratullations, on your new "bellissima"...Looks still in very good condittion...Is it an 1.7 QV??? I ask this, because it lacks the side mouldings, has the rear spoiler, and has the "uglier" alloys as the 33 1.7 QV.
Anyway its a top motor, keep us posted...

Its a 1.7 QV - The v5 says veloce cloverleaf, but as you say it lacks some of the trim.
Just picked up four front wings, at least 2 of which ill use :p .
Hopefully ill get a chance to wake up the neighbours and record a quick sound before work tomorrow. _________________ Alfa Sprint QV - Gone to a better home and in happier health for it

Terrible quality sound clip
Starting from cold, mic far too close to the exhaust pipe, but hopefully this gives some idea of potential
nb. 3000 rpm was not exceeded during the making of this clip
The interior is pretty good - the front seats have been replaced with some ones from what look to be the same model, but with blue cloth rather than red. The glovebox is a tad broken and the indicator stalk is a wee bit floppy :p
If anyone knows where I can get these bits let me know
Its off to the mechanic tomorrow for a stay there whilst it gets welded up and the proper lowering springs and new front shocks put on. And an mot. Heres hoping itll be done in time for the 28th... _________________ Alfa Sprint QV - Gone to a better home and in happier health for it

Estimate for mot work has come in...
£400
It left most of the n/s inner sill on the floor at the test centre, combine that with the springs and the lots of little bits of welding and there you go...
Still, cant wait to start using it. Belts will have to wait till next payday though! _________________ Alfa Sprint QV - Gone to a better home and in happier health for it

very nice looking motor!
welcome to the club
the sound file was a bit poor quality but the exhaust sounds like a monster none the less. i do love a well vented boxer exhaust note.
hope all the repairs go well and you have it up and running soon!

Mechanics already phoned once complaining that the car is fighting him every step of the way!
Hes also found more rot on one of the front inner wing to be fixed later, but that will have to wait as the wing has to come off. I have a good wing needing painting, but its going to have to wait for a month or so.
Belts are being done as soon as the mot is done.
I should have bought a good one to begin with but at least when its repaired it will be an upgraded good one, rather than a stock good one. _________________ Alfa Sprint QV - Gone to a better home and in happier health for it

Hi, just thought id post an update.
Got it back today, still un motd due to a misunderstanding of the mechanic thinking I was going to take it back to the original mot station. However, at least all the work needed has been done and the car looks a lot happier sitting what looks like a good 20mm higher than it was on the cut springs which is welcome ground clearance. Driving it back even just across town was an absolute joy. The noise it makes and the 3 spoke wheel just has me imagining myself as Nicholas Cage in Gone in 60 seconds! albeit replace super light with super heavy steering. I also have a bill which will not feel ashamed to be placed alongside the others in the history file (gulp)
The bad news is that I cant get it booked in to have an mot and the cambelts done in time for the 28th, so I shall have to turn up in my shedmobile. The other bad news is that the springs I got still come out of place at the rear if you fully extend the suspension ie put the car on a lift. This is because of the koni adjustables on the back it would seem. However, they were fitted in about 1990, and its passed plenty of mots since then! so hopefully an mot tester wont be too picky. _________________ Alfa Sprint QV - Gone to a better home and in happier health for it

Have you tried the Haynes Motor Museum for an MOT? They are a testing station too. 01963 440804
