The front NS wheel bearing is whining / wobbling on my 1993 33 1.7ie. I have the bearing kit and was going to throw the car at the garage but he is mega busy. I have a couple of spare evenings this week that I could spend doing it myself.
I've had a look at the workshop manual and it doesn't look too difficult so long as I can get everything undone.
Has anyone tried it at home? Is it easy / possible or am I best leaving it to the man with the proper tools?
Thanks

Seem to remember that getting the hub separated is not that difficult but getting the old inner bearing shell off the stub axle requires some effort, usually using an air hammer...
Getting the new bearing onto the shaft is more difficult, we always use a 15 tonne press and some carefully selected driving tools (sockets). There is no point ruining a brand new bearing due to lack of the correct tools. It is of course possible using a large bench vice and the selected socket to drive the bearing on.
Wouldn't say its particularly difficult and once you've successfully done one you really will find it quite easy.
Hope that helps a little. _________________ 1987 Alfa Sprint Veloce |
