Hi all,
Just recently i've noticed a very hot smell coming from the car Shocked
This happens when i give it the lead foot treatment and as soon as it comes it's gone again?? I have looked under the bonnet but can't see anything obvious ie leaking petrol, something hanging on the exhaust and so i wondered if anyone out there had any ideas. The best way to describe the smell is like an electrical fire smell (although all electrics are fine) it doesn't smell of petrol at all.
I could just lay off the gas pedal to solve the problem but this really isn't an option Twisted Evil

Asbestos makes a similar smell to electrics when hot.
Try checking the brakes or clutch.
Lead foot and slightly slipping clutch would give that sort of smell or brakes binding.

hi,

i experienced once a leaking exhaust manifold gasket that would just give a slight burning smell when hitting the gas pedal hard.
otherwise i don't see how your symptoms could be related to an electrical fault but you can always check your ignition switch since it's the #1 part to catch on fire in the vehicle electrics.

best regards,
zp

I ran over some plastic a while ago. It melted all along the exhaust pipe and now is impossible to remove - it still smells.

Have a look for the remains of a plastic bag or something similar. You may have done the same thing.

Regards
