Hi All
Having a problem where the battery in my series 1, twin carb, keeps running flat, despite being a new battery.
I checked the charge of the system and it only seems to be running at about 11 volts at idle and perhaps 12-13 at the most when the revs are up. I assume this wouldn’t be enough to charge the battery during a drive?
Do you guys know of any simple ways I can boost the charge coming from my alternator (already checked the belts etc etc) without having to open it up and replace diodes etc? Or is this going to be a job for my mechanic?
Otherwise my car is running great…

Hi Ravi, minimum nedeed to charge it is 12.4V.
On Series 2/3 there was brushes with diode (voltage regulator) that was easy to take out, and replace with new one (only two screws).
In my case s3 33 16v, reason for not charging was main ground that needed cleaning, it was bunch of seven black wires on starter. (just follow thick black wires from neg pole on battery)
So if you have time clean all main ground points. _________________ Tino Vatavuk

Something is draining your battery,12-13 volts is plenty to charge it.
Sounds like you have a short somewhere _________________ Presntly own
