Hi all
I'm going to underseal the Alfa Series III. While I'm at it, I want to replace the old carpet with a new one.
When welding the underside a long time ago, I removed the carpet and threw away everything under it (the felt and stuff)!.
So now I have a carpet, straight on top of the floor, and nothing else. I can't remember what goes under the carpet!!!!!
Someone know?!
Thanks!

Hi,
Between the carpet and the floor, there should be:
1. Tar sheets glued to the metal
2. Felt covering the surface of the floor.
After welding did you replace the tar sheets with new?
If not go get some tar sheets and stick them to the floor; this makes a huge improvement concerning exterior noise.
Then, go get felt - measure the surface of the floor so that you don't run out of it. Be sure to cover with felt the transmittion tunnel under the gear lever.

Thanks Thanassis!
I recall removing some polystyrene foot rests behind the front seat too! Was I imaging things?

Nope, there are high-tech pieces of polystyrene in one or two places in the footwells. I pulled them out of my demolition derby car.
Guys who race 33s chip off those tar sheets and throw away all that felt stuff to save weight. The first Honda Integra Type Rs didn't have the sound deadening stuff that the normal models had, to make them faster and more hardcore and make all the Honda geeks drool. |
