Hi all 
This topic, has already been covered, but i cant find it...
My gearbox, started to give up on me, and i cant find a good one from a scrapper...
My car is a 16v. I already considered a gearbox from a 145/6 1.7 16v, but the supports are completly different.
My question is this:
The gearbox ratios are the same between 1.7 and 1.5??
I also remember, someone saying that the gearbox from the 16v, has a "special" hole for the RPM sensor from the Motronic...
Is this correct??
If this is correct, does the gearbox from the 1.5 IE, features that "hole"???
Also, if that is correct, the gearboxes, from carbureted cars, cant be used on injection models.
Is this correct??

According to the Alfa documentation - the 1.5, 1.7 and 1.7 16v gearboxes are the same part numbers.

The gearboxes are fairly similar, though somebody once said there were extra strengthening fins on the 16v one??? The overall gearing on the 1.5 definitely seems shorter than on the 1.7.

Yes, i`ve already, been there... But my doubt, still remains...
The "best" gearbox that i found cames from a carbbed 1.5 (series3)...
I say "best" because i am taking the onwer word for it ( its a good friend thats living at 350 Km from me).
But i`ve heard that, in order to fit the 16v engine the gearbox case MUST have a place, were to insert the RPM sensor...
Carbbed cars, didn`t have this sensor, and i was told to get a 16v gearbox only (as i dont intend to swap gearbox internals).
I never saw a 1.5 gearbox, out of the car... But did the 1.5 IE also had a RPM Sensor???
Also, i dont want to travel 350 km, just to find out that the gearbox wont fit my car...
I compare this case, with engine block predisposition to mechanical fuel pump (carbbed cars) and blanked ones for injection models...

To my knowledge, All 33's uses the same sensor. My 84 S1(carbed) and 91 S3 are the same and interchangable. The geared spedos were found in suds. Though I remembered the housing or linkange varies slightly, can't remember what exactly but does not interfere with swapping.

Thanks for your input...
But i wasnt talking about speedo sensors.... Those are placed on the right hand side of the gearbox...
I was refering the RPM sensor, on the left side of the gearbox, that connects to the Motronic...

Hi!
I had a 1.3 engine and I've replaced it with 1.7 16V. I'm using the gearbox from the 1.3 engine, and it has that hole needed for the pick-up for the injection. The car is 3rd series.
The only difference between the gearboxes is the shorter diff on the 1.3 engine gearbox so the car won't go over 190 - 200 km/h.
If you find a good gearbox from the earlier version, the hole on the gearbox casing can be easily drilled.
