|
|
Oh NO!
I drive the 33 in all gears and it's fine (and rolling in neutral), but in 5th (clutch up or down) there is like a whittering noise which matches the speed of the engine. It's started getting louder!
Any ideas?
Thanks!

I've got a turbocharger whine in third gear from 2000~2500rpm (sounds cool!), faint gear/bearing noise in some gears, the usual leak from the selector shaft seal, poor synchromesh, poor reverse and first engagement, rattle from the vibrating gear lever at certain revs in the higher gears etc but it's the engine I'm worried about.
My top gearbox tip is check the tightness of the bolts holding the inspection plate onto the bottom of the box. I was surprised to find mine were really loose and were helping me lose even more gearbox oil. Same with the equivalent bolts on the sump. |

Ben,
I've checked these on the main oil sump before and was frightened to find they were about as tight as (some prostitute joke goes here).
But I've never checked the sump bottom for the gearbox. Good thinking - I'll have a look.

While you're down there, check the bolts holding the gearbox to the engine/clutch. The bottom two (there's four?) are easy to see when under the car. One of mine was not tightened at all and the other had long since lost the nut and washer on the road somewhere... |
