HI all , please help me decide what to do.
My 1988 1.5 s2 has got a stuffed left hand front shock .
can they be replaced, and if so can any competent mechanic do it.
i cant really justify the expence of replacing the whole strut with a new one if that is what i have to do, im sure the really need to be done in pairs. heard they cost around $700 nz

is it worth looking for second hand strut, the car has done 200,000 km, still goes very well.
would dearly like to keep it going. much appreciated
pete

The strut is a complete unit no seperate shock.

I wouldn't replace only one as this will make it very dangerous (handling wise) you need to replace the pair (Sachs or Boge) but you can get koni inserts which are cheaper but only fit the Boge one's(I think)

And yes the struts are exceptionally expensive the cost of a single one would buy you a half decent 33 in the UK.
