Hey there

A friend of mine is having some trouble figuring out if his engine is the original or not. How do the engine and chassis number match? I mean, the engine number is only a letter and 6 numbers and the chassis number is a lot longer. Will some of the numbers match if it's the original engine or what?

AFAIK, no.
but if you have access to Alfa Romeo Parts CD version 32 or latter, you should be able to get original engine number by entering chasis number into it (local Alfa dealer should have latest version of it and it is 5 sec work).

Engine type (ie AR30747) and nuber (6digit) is positioned above cyl no3, in case of my 16v you cant see it without removing air filter rubber to AFM, and even moving AFM a little.

Hi, I have a parts CD and will check it for you if you wish. Send me a PM with your chassis number.
