We replaced our clutch master cylinder the other day. Here are a few tips. Remove all pipes before you remove the two main bolts (it's more difficult to get a good grip on the hydraulic pipe with bolt when the cylinder is loose). Make sure that you have plenty of rags under the cylinder to soak up any fluid that will leak out. You can clamp the flexible hose that goes to the resevoir with a molewrench. You'll need a good set of circlip plyers for the circlip on the clutch pedal assembly (the circlip is dinky, mine broke, and I needed to borrow the plyers from my local specialist + scavenge a new circlip from a wreck). When you undo the bolts that support the master cylinder, you'll need somebody to hold them in place from under the bonnet whilst you undo them from inside, otherwise they just turn and don't undo. According to my manual, the hydraulic pipe should be torqued up to 10-15 Nm, not too tight.
For bleeding you will need a size 7 open ended spanner.
It's quite an easy job, the most difficult thing is removing the circlip!
Hope this helps |
