Hi!

I'm planning to build a 1.7 IE 8 valve engine with turbo. I've choose this engine because it has a MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor to determine the amount of air going in to the engine. The 16V model has AMF (air mass sensor) that can't determine the exact amount of air under boost. I'll be using about 14 - 20 psi (1 - 1.3 bar) of boost with comp. ratio of 7:1. That will raise under boost to about 11.5:1. The fuel detonation will be solved with water injection. I've calculated the power and it will be about 170 kw under 14 psi of boost with 270 Nm of torque. There will be a major modification to the heads so that the compression chamber volume will be raised from 47 ccm to about 60 ccm. More modification will be made to the exhaust system.

When I start building the engine I'll be posting my progress.

Hi

Very much doubt the standard MAP sensor will take positive preasure. Cannot remember if it is built into the ECU ( of the Bosch and Marelli systems, it is built into the ECU on one and seperate on the other but I cannot remember which way round).

You are pretty much going to have to throw away the standard injection system anyway so I would not let that bother you as to whether to go for an 8v or a 16v

All the best

Keith
