hi everyone

i had posted a while ago about a tailgate that won't hold open on an imola.
after a long, long, long, negotiation with alfa romeo officials, i have obtained a replacement part :
old part = 60577976
new part = 60570435
it seems the new ones have a strength of 300N (equivalent to about 30kgs force) whereas the old ones had only 260N (equivalent to about 26kgs force).
thanks to all those who had contributed

regards

Hi

Think there were different gas struts for the models with and without a rear spoiler (due to the extra weight)

How much were these struts? My 33 could do with some, especially now there is a CD changer hanging from the rear parcel shelf

All the best

Keith

Note that it is very easy to modify a set of 90s ford escort struts to fit and they are readily available from scrappys. Used them on a 16v cloverleaf (ie with spoiler) without problems

hi!

i didn't pay for the new struts as these were under warranty.
however, i suspect the price is the same as the old ones (the part looks exactly the same, except for the writings on the struts : they're blue on the old ones, white on the new ones, and the last line is different)
i paid last year 53 euros for two struts.

however, on my car (an Imola fitted with a spoiler - i mean, the spoiler was fitted at the factory, it's no add-on!) the struts appear different from the ones from a 16V :
on the imola, the black part of the strut is below, fitted on the main body, and the steel part is fitted on the tailgate.
on the contrary, on the 16V, the black part goes on the tailgate. besides, struts look much shorter (it's perhaps only subjective), and the strut mounts are not located at the same place, they're closer to the hinges on the 16V (which means that you'll have to drill holes if you want to swap tailgates between an imola and a 16V, to my mind)

so the part number i gave are only relevant for an Imola, perhaps it works on other models (i've seen series3 1.5 ie fitted with a spoiler, perhaps it works for these cars, too?) but i'm not sure for a 16V, so check twice before buying the wrong part...

regards,
zp
