Now my head is run in, I started giving it the beans but it hasn’t been going as fast as it should. Then it dawned on me, like a light bulb coming on, PING!! I don’t think I set up the throttle cable correctly, doh! I checked and yes, full throttle was about 3mm of the throttle bodies being fully open.
I adjusted that and fitted my induction kit, balanced out the throttle bodies after the engine was warm, was 2 flat sides out and took her for a test flight.
OH yeah, better but the throttle bodies need balancing, as it feels hesitant and unbalanced when slowly blipping the throttle. When quickly blipping the throttle, from idle to fully open there is a big lag and it nearly stalls.
My friend has ordered some vacuum gauges, I’ll let you how it goes. _________________ x2 33 16v

I suffer from the lag (due to larger 45mm Weber's) but as long as its over 4000rpm there is no problem. i tried shorter trumpets and the lag almost disappears but i loose out on mid range torque. _________________ PHAT 33 |

Yeah, I remember my carbies, I used to loose low down torque when using K&N air filters, but free-er revving at top end and lovely induction noise, swings and roundabouts I guess.
I tried using the original plenums going from carbs to the air box with the bottom cut off the air box. Got the torque and free revving but would have lost power due to heat of engine being sucked straight in. Need to somehow ram air into box and use a K&N panel filter I guess.
When I used to get my carbs tuned and balanced, the tuner would jab down on the throttle linkage and know when everything was good as there would be no delay and engine would rev up really quickly and instantaneously.
I know of a highly modded ford escort that would flood and bog down if you tried to accelerate hard from low revs, is that what you are getting? _________________ x2 33 16v

No don't think so , the engine was really built for set up of throttle bodies, but the costs (and sound) was escalating so carbs were the way to go, plus it keeps the car a bit more original. _________________ PHAT 33 |

I have heard that 45 would better suit 2.0L engines, would you be better off using 40's and getting them re jetted? You should get no lag when tuned properly. _________________ x2 33 16v

The 45mm carbs are fine, but your right , getting them re-jetted would prevent the hiccup on rapid accelerating at low revs but the engine is designed to pull over the magical 4000rpm and at this point its fine. ![Twisted Evil](images/smiles/icon_twisted.gif) _________________ PHAT 33 |
