Guys,
Got the oil sump off today... and felt for play in the big end bearings. In the plane of the conrods there appears to be little play, but in the plane of the crankshaft I could freely wobble them about 1/16"!
Is this Ok?! I always thought there should be no play in these bearings and everything should be nice and smooth? Would this explain the loud repeated banging noises when the engine is running?!

| I think the play in the conrods is normal ie side to side along the length of the crank but all i can say is there was no play in the crank bearings on mine when i stripped it down. You may have solved yer banging noise! |
