just changed the rear wheel bearings on my 17ie, and would like to know if they are tightend up to a specific torque (like a ford fiesta for instance) or left with a bit of play like a more traditional tapper roller before i pean them over.

I've done it the wrong way once or twice - tightened the nut until there was no play and left it at that. I think once everything settles down properly, play appears and I fail scrutineering at the next track day. Hence the approved way of tightening it and giving it a bash to settle things, THEN re-tightening and fixing in place. _________________ "Now, all that is left to do ... is wait that something else brokens, to fix up again!" |

Hi
If you over tighten them (ie, tighten them up to the specified torque but not release them) then expect the wheel bearings to be metal paste after a while.
All the best
