The brake drums on my car are painted red which is a bit 'Max Power' for my liking. Did they come out of the factory like that or is it a previous owners doing?

I'd say definitely a previous owner.
And why would anyone paint brake drums a bright colour? Drums are not considered a performance item - you don't want to draw attention to the fact that your car isn't big or powerful enough to warrant rear disc brakes..

My thoughts exactly, though my driving style is pretty light on the brakes so I find them more than adequate.

So I guess they should be black, yes?

Hi,

From the factory i think they were just raw iron, so they usually look like something that was brought up from the titanic.

I painted mine with black hammerite which has stayed fine for 8 years, so i guess they don't get very hot.

My choice of paint for brakes is aerosol barbecue paint, that'll do the trick.
