Hey guys I just rotated my tyres, as the fronts are close to the limit. I like to buy all 4 new tyres instead of just the fronts to keep all tread patterns the same and keep fresh rubber all round. If one didn’t rotate the tyres I’m sure it would be possible to never change the rears ever again because they never seem to wear. My rears look like new.
This is my first set of GYEF1's, is it normal for them to wear that quick?
The tracking was checked and aligned when all 4 new tyres were fitted less than 1 year ago.
I know that the fronts do steering and power but come on, I don’t do many miles, are they too soft a compound?
Also I just went round a frequent corner and got tyre squeal, I corner gradually, not hard and fast, trying to keep a nice weight distribution. is this due to higher tread or do you think the tracking needs checking again, I have not hit anything like pot holes, curbs, sleeping/awake policemen, rabbits, cats/dogs, or squirrels as I’ve heard that their teeth can cause punctures, no one believes me on that one Laughing

Hi dude, yeah the Eagle F1 is a fairly soft tyre so does wear faster than normal. Only today i got a puncture in my o/s/f tyre which is a G Y eagle F1, the inside edge is slick! im gonna try Toyo Proxi for a change as they are very sticky. Very Happy

So a new pair of Toyo's going on tommorow.

i've never had more than 3000-3500 miles out of a set of f1's. you cant beat the wet weather grip and all the other tyres just about keep up in the dry. but the price you pay for grip is wear.

the toyo's are just as good in the dry but noticeably worse in the wet. however they do last another 1500 miles per set.

thanks LDA, is that including rotating so all 4 wear or just the fronts?
Yer i know about grip vs mileage, i used to run my old car on yokis lol, changed them every week...

I kept saying to people on another site.con to buy the toyo's but everyone insists the f1 are better, I have used both and find the toyo's a superior tyre in the wet and dry. Now my old f1's lasted 4 yrs before replacement and hardly wore (maybe i got one of those dodgy batches from the far east) but since putting on the toyo's i can put nearly all my bhp down with little or no wheel spin in the dry. Paul who drove my car at donnie with the f1's on and recently drove my car at spa with the toyo's would back my claims, all i can say is i cannot rate them enough!!. Exclamation

sweeeeet, I looked at the prices today and cant believe how cheap they are in comparison.con he he to the F1's. I will give them a try when i replace my tyres.

Also Al the Toyo is almost the same tread pattern to the F1 but it has a diff compound edge to help grip when cornering. Also they come with a cool red & green stripe around them!! Very Happy

you'll find yourself parking with your wheels on full lock to show them off! he he he .

To strike a controversial note, I can take most corners and bends at near or above the legal limit in my less than £40 fitted tyres that my local garage fit by default. I think they might be BF Goodrich or one of the Michelin brands.

The car feels nicely balanced and rides well and is huge fun to drive. Is absolute cornering speed relevant in having fun or is it more the feeling you are driving the car hard?

Which begs the question why fork out more than £40 a corner for tyres?

yer i did see "set of f1's" to me a set is the whole 4, so i thought i'd ask as that seemed well low mileage. Damn, you must drive real hard lol

Totally agree Iain, i have BF goodrich on my 33 sw and Toyo Proxi jobs on my 155. BF are harder, last longer & cheaper. Toyo's are by far the grippier (although they do need to warm up). Both my Alfa's have the same wheels, (16" 155 black speedlines) so it's a real good way to compare tyres.
