Are they unique to the car? Handed?

Just noticed that my nearside one has a hole in it.

Did they originally have covers?

Yes they are handed, which i do you need? i have 3 or 4 pairs. They never came with covers but some rare models came with blanking covers to hide the holes in the bumper if you romoved the lights.

Just swapping them over and I found a Hella part number, and it looks like you can still get them new albeit at £70 a pop:
