Hi Guys, I hear from BigAL that using deep dish Sud spring pans for the front of my S3 33 will help it sit lower in front. Couple of questions for you:
Will this affect handling adversely?
Will I need any other components to make this work for my 33?
Where can I get some?
I've got H&R Springs front and rear matched to Koni shocks (refills) all round. Appreciate your help.

Hey Al33nut,
Do you have ser 1 2 or 3 33?
I guess ser 3 as you got H&R?
You will need ser 1 struts, with metal roller type bearings to accommodate the 2 type of metal roller bearings, one goes with the sud spring pan that has a large hole in and pokes through. The other sits under the spring pan which has the normal small hole.
When I did this I used ser 1 / 2 front springs, which are not as tall as ser 3 and I got a drop of 60mm, I had to get the Koni's shortened. In theory this should work fine with a taller ser 3 springs, as long as the spring is not loose when the strut is assembled you should be ok.
You might need to remove some negative camber, I went through a pair of tyres in 2 months lol, never got round to changing the camber.
If you have larger wheels the spring pan might touch the wheel, I was running standard 14” at the time but I keep within the original diameter anyway with my 195 50 15 or 195 40 16
Someone might be able to tell you if the deep sud spring pans will fit on a ser 2 / 3 strut, I didn’t go that way because they use the crappy plastic fag bearings which are notorious for breaking with standard springs and shocks.
I still have my setup and can take pictures if you want.
I am in the process of getting my Koni’s sorted, fitting solid top mounts ready for a track day or 2 _________________ x2 33 16v

| Much appreciated BigAL. Would like to see both how your car sits and the set up. You're located in Surrey right? Are you going for the meet in April that Alex Poulter (33bits) mentioned? We could meet up then and exchange notes. I suggestted to Oggie (Iain) that we all go together - he's in Farnham, I'm in Woking - if you're up for that. Although any piccies you can send in the meantime will be much appreciated. Cheers - Nnamdi (AL33NUT) |

I will be getting my koni's sorted, long story!!!
The ser 3 naturally sits lower and might not be necessary. _________________ x2 33 16v

| Series 1 springs are of different heights across the range. My comfy spec model is an inch or two taller than the QV |

have you got Koni inserts for the ser 3 strut? If so then pics of my struts wont be of much use as mine are ser 1 struts.
Unless someone can confirm the sud deep pans will fit over ser 3 strut bearings "plastic fag"
I only have the deep pans with the large hole in the middle so i cant test for you.
Do you have any pics of your car as it is now? _________________ x2 33 16v

BigAL, yes I've got Koni inserts for my Ser 3 Strut. Funny enough I don't have any pictures but will take a few. Incidentally, I think Alex (33bits) has a picture of my car. By the way will you be joining the convoy of Oggie and I? I'm not sure we'll be able to keep up with him with all the mods he's got on that beast. Also, he's gonna be looking pretty mean in that revamped machine...not sure it's a good idea to go in convoy anymore |

Mate... wot are the chances of checking the lengths of your semi trailing arms on both your S1s? I have an SC (super comfort, not single carb so i'm told), and it used to sit real high before i put justsuds springs on.
I'm wondering if the arms on your green clover are shorter to reduce the -ve camber on the shorter springs... or is there obvioulsy more -ve camber on the greeny compared to the goldy? |
