Late model strut assembly replacement

Does anyone know if the later model struts (three bolts, narrow top of spring & stronger looking top bearings) can be replaced with the complete assembly from an older model?

ill take it your is a ser 3 l or m reg
my friend has an m reg with 3 fixing bolts he ordered the mounts months ago from italy they have still not turned up so best of luck
