Good question, my lock packed up years ago, still have the key but its nigh on impossible to unlock when you turn the key to lock it!, i guess the barrel went in so its got to come out. Confused

Hey guys, i wondered this myself and took one apart that had seized. I lubricated it and it started to work. I know if the lock was changed you would have another key but i wonder if the barrell/ bits that stick out when the key is in place, could be filled when your original key is in place, so you can use your original key.

I managed to do this with the boot lock on one of our old Daimlers, just found a similar key that fitted the lock and filed it and the lock mechanism till it all lined up and it turned.
The weak part of the series 2 petrol cap is the clip that secures the barrel is prone to rust allowing it to come out.
This is an easy fix and keeping the whole thing well greased is a good idea.
