|
|
Hi
The 1.3 is driving me mad.
Damn thing won't start and won't spark. Everything checks out or has been swapped for ones that work (dizzy and electronic ignition module on the side of the dizzy). Power to the coil and it is earthed fine. Resistance over the primary and secondary windings of the coil check out OK.
Any ideas?
Realistically I only want to get it started so I can get rid of it!
All the best

So are all leads and plugs okay? Is dizzy cap okay? (especially the sprung bush at the top). Wiring into the dizzy? Is this carbed or injection? _________________ Owner's Club 33 Registrar. Now from P4 & S2 1.7 QV

Hi
It is a carbed injection shape car, just to confuse you. So it has the late distributor with the ignition unit on the side of it.
I am getting no sign of a spark, not even on the coil lead. There is continuity on all the wires from the dizzy / electronic ignition unit to the coil.
All the best

Does it use a flywheel sensor?

Hi Keith,
I once had an ignition switch that caused such a problem. It would cut the power to the ignition while cranking, whereas everything was OK when not cranking.
Put a light bulb between coil supply and ground to check for power during cranking
Regards,

Hi
No crankshaft sensor. Uses a normal distributor but with the electronic ignition unit on the side of it rather than by the coil
The coil does have power normally. Haven't double checked for power when cranking over so that is well worth checking.
All the best
