Well I managed to fix the door, all be it temporally. I tried a Phillips head screw with washer, but it sat too high and touched the door catch. I then used larger washers and used the original Allen key tampered bolts.

The washers were jamming on the catch.
I now can't open the door.
I have tried pushing the door from the inside whilst someone pulls on the door from the outside with the window down pulling on the lower part of the window, whilst pulling the handle from both inside and outside.
The door is part open, as the central locking wont close now, I can't take the door card off as the dash is in the way.
Any suggestions?
thanks

Nightmare.
If you can get a spare door card you could cut off the original else maybe front seat/s out to give room to pull the door card around?
Good luck.

Can you push the door closed button(that does the interior light) in on frame between the hinges? That might allow you to unlock the doors. Not sure how it works tbh but worth a try I would have thought. |

Sorry that was me not logged in. Also try disconnecting the battery. Again clutching at straws but you never know! _________________ Alfa33 QO 1984

the dash is the thing that is in the way, i dont know if pulling the door card off will help any though as the door is kind of open bu wedged on the catch
not sure how pushing the light switch would help lol, cant get to that and the hinges are bolted fro the inside of the door shuts I can lock the car by removing the fuse for the central locking and can close all other doors
Thanks guys, keep em comming _________________ x2 33 16v

Might have to be club hammer persuasion on a piece of wood inside the door as close to the catch as you can get it.
I'd think knocking the door open will cause the least damage as opposed to trying to pry it open from the outside.
Can you get a hacksaw blade in from inside to work away at the washers? _________________ If it aint broke, fiddle with it until it is!

Have you got that picture of what you did? As I'm not sure of what you've done Al. My suggestion would be to remove outer window seal strip and get a piece of wire with a bend at the end down there to try and pull on the release lever. |

Another suggestion would be to weld the door up, smash the window out, paint the car orange with flag motif on top and then go running from the law. |

I always wondered how they got uncle Jessie in the back, especially with the roll cage? _________________ If it aint broke, fiddle with it until it is!

All be it a time consuming event, you could remove the front wing exposing the 6 door hinge bolts and try taking it of that way?, but easyiest would be to drill a decent size hole in the door card. _________________ PHAT 33 |

Just had a thought and here's a serious suggestion.
Try jacking the car at the rear jacking point and if that doesn't work try the others one by one as the flex in the car might be enough to pop it open.

When I took delivery of the red P4 I am currently stripping, the doors were seized closed. The latch pivots had seized into their mounts.
I was able, carefully but persistently, to unclip the rear top edge of the door card, and lever the plastic strip that holds it along the window up over the metalwork.
I then got several long 3/8 extension bars as drifts, and tapped the inside part of the latch mechanism round to release the door.
it was all a bit fiddly, but worked with no damage to anything other than a couple of broken door trim clips I had to replace.
Hope that helps, as if the mods to the handle are causing the issue, tapping the latch mechanism round to release the door should still work as it can rotate independent of the handle mechanism. _________________ Drivers:

Thanks for the serious suggestions
I put 3 large washers around the 3 allen key bolts holding the door locking mechanism in place. the originall holes in the door for the bolts had corroded completly and the allen bolts pulled through into the door, so the whole locking mechanism was not fixed to anything.
So, the door locking mechanism now catches on the door piller catch, the door open mechanism works, as the door is not closed properly as the central locking doesnt close, due to the catch not being fully home. _________________ x2 33 16v

If you just put washers under the heads of the allen bolts holding the mechanism in the door, the mechanism should still be in the same place, but the bolt heads are higher, and catching on the stationary part of the lock, on the door pillar.
Look at the opposite door to see what I mean.
I don't know if my car has extra large panel gaps, but I can clearly see the mechanism when the door is closed, and it looks like it would be possible to fabricate a tool to go in there via the gap and prise apart the two parts of the lock where they are jammed together.
