Think so, put it this way when we fitted my tail part of the gear box to the sud box, the angle of the selector rod and size was different I will take some measurements tomorrow in prep for when it is fitted.

Don't forget to put a blob of cold porridge somewhere in the linkage to achieve that series three gearshift precision.

I have a question on the circlip..

I was not able to put both the clip
(number 7 in the picture you
posted from alfaimolafree site)
and the other clip (number 6 in the picture),
it seam to me that there is enough space
only for one..

Are they alternative? Or somebody was able
to put them (number 6 and 7) togheter?

I tried to use only clip number 7
and it doesn't resist a simple test of 'strong' gear shift ,
so I put the number 6 and is two years that is still there..

Actually I have another kit on the car for emergency,
(arrived to me thank to alfa-restoration site)
and a leverage modified with the bolt ready
to mount next time I will do some maintenance..

but still I don't understand exactly
how both clips are to be used..

No, I was not able to install both clips either (the slot was not wide enough to accomodate both) and effectively they do the same thing. There are, however, those on this forum who have!

The slot on my linkage rod had worn shoulders such that they were more chamfered than square and I think this was contributing to my occasional clip loss.

Until I converted to a bolt I carried several spares and wired the one in use in place.

I wasn't able to install both either.
I think Bobbber said he managed to get both on. I have put the little c clip on instead of the larger one. and will keep the larger one in the car just incase.
As you say, the groove seems only large enough for one thing, the larger one's center it too big for the main shaft I think.

that Alfa-Fiat put togheter in the picture you posted that came from
the Eper manual of spares !!!!!!!!!!! 'Confused'
Damned Eper..
Now yes, I can sleep again 'Very Happy'

I was in the same boat, but this time I trying the smaller of the clips, seems a lot tighter, if yours has lasted 2 years then I don't think I have to worry Smile

In my case it was the small c-clip that dosn't last the time of a test,
(with the car stopped in the garage I tried to change gear quite strong).
It was the bigger and strange one clip that last untill now.

I think it depends which is best on the 'worn shoulders'
different on each car, so a test is necessary.
I see is also important the combination of rubber and metal discs
(sorry my english) you put before,
if they are quite tight mounted vertically and also orizontally
the clip works "in plane" and is more difficult it fail.

Oh great lol, well I have the larger on spare in my car for when it fails. It does seem way tighter than the other type, which is loose.

Hi, today I recall to see my kit in the auto,
the rubber washer is 1,5 mm thick.
When I mounted the big clip last time
I put the rubber washer with a combination of 2 metal
washers of various thickness, to have a quite strong
(but not excessively) assembly, with no play,
so the axe remain more aligned vertically
and the forces on the surface of the clip
work more uniformly on all the sides 'Shocked'

Thanks,
I have 2 rubber washers there and there is still a gap.
The rubber bush that is in the tube has been pinched at the top and a part has been worn away. I turned mine around but there is still play.
When I can I will replace the rubber bush with a nylon tube.

Thanks,
I think replacing it would be futile, looks to be a flawed design.

I got mine from Gritsop who could still get them in Greece at the time(about 3-4 years ago). I haven't needed them yet but it's in the glovebox in case.
