..an unexpected solution of the rebus, nobody thought about it
So are you keeping in the gearbox the oil with the anti-friction addictive?
If so it is an interesting test, because if it is still possible to do fast gear
changes with the addictive in the oil as you said last time
(i.e. syncros frictions are not slipping too much, still working right)
some little power gain/petrol consumption reduction should be possible..
I think I read gearbox in transaxle scheme drain at least 15% of power
(+ some power drain at the wheel ball bearing and at the tyres,
maybe for a total of 18-22% ??) because hypoid gears at the
differential drain 3% more power than a differential with parallel gears.
If the addictive is 10% more effective than the original formulation of the
oil may be you can have 1-2 more horsepower at the wheel ?
I suspect anti-friction addictive for gearbox are not completely fakes
because some "green" models of new cars searching to reduce
fuel consumption are using very thin gradation gearbox oil with them. _________________ Alfa 33 |

sorry no I did change the oil this weekend.
It now has Motul Gearbox 'reinforced formula with M0S2' which is designed for hypoid gears and yellow material.
I guess it has it's own good cocktail of additives.
Engine was running nice and cool. _________________ S2 33 1988 1.7 QV

ah ok..you put a modern type oil with it's own cocktail of additives.
MOS2 is one of anti-friction addictives, so in practice you got it in the oil
(as recent cars) but in the safe and tested composition prepared by vendor..
I'm interested from my gearbox too, the oil is it this?
http://www.canadasmotorcycle.ca/motul-gearbox-mos2-oil.html
In the spec they write GL5 and GL4, in the vendor language it should
mean that it has no high corrosive power (low sulfur concentration),
and they write it also in the spec..seam really ok
It is mineral but should be quite good as here they used it
for bmw boxer motorclycle transmission, that is know to be 'sensible'
(and breakable if used with bad oils):

With fresh new oil did you see any difference in the gearbox working? _________________ Alfa 33 |

Yep that's the one! Go for it.
Good stuff I believe. Good for our old boxer boxes.
Gear changes felt good, nice and precise. Managed to change fairly quickly from 1st into 2nd without a crunch.
Only crunched when I put it into first, which is normal for my car, when stopping at lights I normally put it into first before I stop, or slip it into 2nd and then into first to avoid that small 1st crunch.
Engine was running cooler, but that was probably due to the 300v synthetic oil I put in at the same time. _________________ S2 33 1988 1.7 QV
