even though I have an 8v still a good doc to store away
and my doubt was confirmed.
The crank is nitrided and cannot be reground.
I guess the same goes for the 8v crank? _________________ S2 33 1988 1.7 QV

Hi
Presume that is the manual for the 16v engine fitted to the 145/6. I would check if the crank is the same in it as the 33.
The 33 workshop manuals were on fiche.
All the best

Just read through this post, wouldn't quite agree with Brit01, in that you can get the cranks ground, as long as you have the parts/journals re-nitrided.
Not may people do it - but it can be done.
Mine came back from the nitriders recently. _________________ The faster the better. |

33 engine manual is available from Mercian Manuals:
http://www.mercianmanuals.co.uk/
Click manuals, select Alfa Romeo and scroll down to 33 16v and fuel injection manual. It covers 1351cc/1596cc plus 1712 8v and 16v. Its an invaluable book and good value at £12 or so _________________ 1994 33 16v

Rich,
Would you happen to know if the Mercian manual, on their dropdown list, which seems to be a 17v engine supplement, is any different to the one where there is a link at the top of this thread? TBH I only need the engine bit at the moment.... _________________ The faster the better. |

Just been through the manual from the link with my manual from Mercian Manuals (the Alfa Romeo Direzione Assistenza Tecnica engine manual) and they look to be exactly the same.
You may want to look at page 23, you mentioned a torque setting for the conrod cap fasteners in another thread, not sure if you saw my reply but the torque you were working with is not correct. Page 23 will give you the correct figures _________________ 1994 33 16v

Yep, that is exactly what I was trying to correlate as well as tying in with the official documentation from Alfa. It seems that my settings at 48nm is a bit low. Going to contact the engine builder on Monday as well as copying him the link to here - as you say the engine manual has some good overall torque setting information etc. _________________ The faster the better. |
