I have a fuel line leak (injected car).

There are two fuel pipes that go over the fuel filler hose where it goes in the tank. One goes into a white plastic line to the front of the car and the other goes into a smaller diameter black plastic line again running to front (is this latter the return?).

Where it goes over the fuel filler hose the black line goes into a metal fitting which in turn goes into a short length of old school rubber fuel hose and then back into black plastic. It is the forward of these two joints that is leaking. Is this short length of rubber anything special (non return valve?) or just a join between two lengths of plastic pipe?

I've never worked with plastic fuel hose, how do you join it?

I'm not certain but that short bit of hose is probably just a joiner as you suspect.

I think I binned some of the plastic tube at some point and now just have rubber hoses to and from the tank and pump connected to the plastic pipes that run along the sill/ underside.

Tomorrow in the light I'll try and have a look at what's what on my car.

Did you just sleeve the plastic into the rubber or use the barbed adapters?

We have RAC 'At Home' so I've called them out. I don't know if they will be able to make a repair but if not I'm tempted to get a tow to the local garage.

I'm happy to fiddle around with the fuel plumbing on cars with carbs but the pressure in PI systems is serious stuff.

Now fixed by the RAC!

This was definitely a factory feature as it used the one time crimp hose clips. one of the steel inserts in the end of the plastic pipe has rusted through so well worth a check folks.

Glad you got it fixed.

Just had quick a look at mine.

On the outlet of the pump- rear- i've got about 6" of rubber hose joining the plastic pipe via the metal joiner thing.

I've got hose from the tank sender to the pump inlet- front.

All my clips are now jubilees and i've not had any issues- the pumps run at about 3bar i think.

I have a recollection of having possibly cut the plastic pipe back a bit and carefully using a heat gun to melt the end back onto the metal joiner.
