Hey all, i've been driving the I.E for the past week and have noticed you really need to work it to get it moving. It bogs down when you go to accelerate and seems to miss when accelerating in 5th gear? I noticed the leads are old and the rotor arm in the distributor looks to have a big burn hole in it? Could that be the cause?
How does everybody elses drive? Mine is a 1.5 with 125000 ks on the clock.

Cheers

The usual procedure in trying to solve a problem like this is to get the ignition working perfectly and if the problem persists start troubleshooting the fuel/air supply and injection system. But in that order.

And make sure a brake isn't binding!

Hi all, i've serviced it with new oil/filter, antifreeze, air filter and plugs. Just got the leads to do and rotor arm.
It went through a wof fine (NZ version of MOT) no brakes sticking and seems to be pull better up the rev range but nothing below 3000rpm?

I would get the ignition timing checked at a garage. The fact that you can't move the distributor would suggest that's it's never been moved. EDIT Oh hang on that's someone else's 1.7i.e. It's most likely OK as long as the distributor is in good nick(no excessive play in the rotor arm axle).

Assuming ignition timing is ok I would get the injectors cleaned and check the working of the sensors giving info to the fuel injection ecu. I don't know about NZ but here in France there are specialist Bosch fuel injection centres who could probably clean your injectors and find the fault fairly quickly at not too much cost(hopefully!).

Unfortunately NZ is a bit hit and miss with alfas, many of the garages I have been to usually have bad experinces with them so refuse to touch them. I have some ijector cleaner that i was going to put in my 75 but seeing as that works properly (touch wood) i'll put it in the 33 and see if it makes a difference. Ta
