|
|
While slowly nibbling through the list of 'things to do' recently bought new shocks for front - only to find out later that they don't fit the strut mounts which I had on my car. Bought the correct mounts so now have 2 upper strut mounts for sale. These are the metal ones with the bearing built in and I gather are rather rare. Does £45 plus postage for the pair sound fair?? Bearings are perfect and free moving with no steps, judders or play.
Just as an aside - what car were these mounts used on? I was led to believe later 33's used the 3 bolt fixing with bearing, where these are 4 bolt. Also - what does the bearing actually do as it is not an interference fit?? |

It's an oddity. Someone told me they were from a later 33, however I thought all the later 33 had this mount but with a 3 bolt fixing. These are 4 bolt with integrated bearing. Weird . . . .
The mounts I needed/should have are the simple rubber ones. |

Not sure I understood, but it seams you have different years versions
- until 89 (not sure about the year) upper mount of front suspension
is without bearing and with 4 bolts (plus there is of course
in the strut the bigger yellow bearing under the coil);
- from 89 to to 93 upper mount of front suspension is 4 bolts
with added a small central bearing (it is said to improve precision
or durability of the suspension) and the hole in the bearing for the strut
is smaller than the one in the previous mount, so you need a strut
of the same years (Ps.: in these years there are struts and coils
of different height, the most high are identical to the ones of before '89,
only modified to fit the smaller hole of the bearing in the upper mount)
- form 93 you have the system with the upper mount with 3 bolts
and also the bigger bearing moved above the coil.. |
