As far as I know the 1.4 and 1.7 IE with L-Jetronic fuel injection have not a knock sensor, since I've quite often heard tese engines knocking. I'm not sure whether there is knocking sensor on 1.4IE with IAW and 1.7 with Bosch Motronic fuel injection systems.
By the way does anyone know if the removal of a catalyst affects the readings of the lambda sensor, because I've fitted a 1.7IE with Bosch Motronic MP3.1 to my '88 series 2, with a lambda sensor but without catalyst, and I'm experiensing heavy consumption.
Regards

The 33 1.7 16v with Bosch ML4.1 definitely does not have a knock sensor. I have just done an extensive study of the system for reasons you will see in my next post.
Cheers

Hi,
the catalyst or its absence doesn't influence the signal from the lambda probe, as it's located downstream from the probe.
