Hi all...
My 16v, oil pressure light, is blinking...
When engine is cold, everything is fine. Even when idle speed decreses (my idle speed is erractic - varies from 1100 to 800 rpm), the light stay`s off.
The problem only appears, when engine gets past the middle of the temperature gauge.
When the idle speed, decreases to the 800 Rpm, the oil pressure light illuminates, but when the engine gets back to 1000 rpm the light goes off again...
I´m i looking at oil pump problems, or oil viscosity problems???
(the oil is due to be changed next week).
I need your`s opinion on this...

Before you get into engine stuff check that there isn't a problem with the oil pressure sender (think it's the one in the middle on back of the block towards flywheel) (unscrew it off and if there's no red light signal on ignition then it must be the right one). Replace the sender with another to see if you get the same problem. Also check that oil can get to the sender. This may not be the case, but it is worth checking first.

Maybe change the oil and filter this week. Also get an oil pressure gauge and check that the presure is correct.

The sender unit, was my first guess also... But the new sender unit did the same thing...

Yes, there is oil in there (dued to be changed). My engine, doesnt burn oil.
The oil level remains constant, never getting an inch down on the dipstick...

It will be done. However, i noticed one thing. I always use the original oil filter from Alfa.
The "orange" filter was replaced by a smaller one (in "black"), and is not avaiable anymore.
On my last oil change, i used this new "black" oil filter...
As the oil got older, i started noticing, that after 2/3 days of inactivity, the engine started ratlling but if i give it a small throtlle burst, the noise quieted down...
Before this filter, it never did that...
Can it be, caused by bad quality oil filter??? - I´m a little concern, because, looking at this filter, it seems that the holes are smaller, than the ones in the original.
Can this be causing blockage to the oil circulation???????

It might be possible that the hydrolic lifters justs under the camshifts are leaking.
The oil leakes away from under them. So if you start and give 3000 revs the noise is away. maybe cleaning the inside off the engine and refresh the hydrolic lifters and the problem is over. |
