hi all
has anyone heard about overtightening the clamps that hold the cams in place on a 16v.its because i have done some headwork and i have put the heads back together. when i put the cam clamps on, 3 of the cams spin freely but the one is very very stiff, ive checked the edges for rough bits etc etc and check the wear surfaces all ok.what i have done to get round this problem is to make gaskets for the cam clamps so they dont sit as tight on the cams. i think whoever worked on the heads last overtightened the clamps and they have squashed a little bit. not very clever considering it would have been a garage.

I took a 16v head to a very well respected (not by me anymore) london alfa specialist 5 years ago for them to change a burnt valve and generally overhaul. It looked like new when i got it back, only problem was that the camshafts were the wrong way round!!!

I had put the head back on before discovering this- loads of agro
