Are most alfasud and 33 dizzies interchangable?

I have a Bosch (pointless) distributor on my 1.7 8valve sprint engine and want to change it for one with points and full mechanical advance.

Does anyone have one?
Rich

Hi

There were a few other dizzy suppliers for the Sud. Marelli and Ducilier I think were pretty common (and need a matching coil I think).

Why do you want points?

All the best

At a recent rolling road tune up (following the addidition of fast road cams and flowed heads), it was suggested that my Bosch distributor would benefit from being changed to mechanical advance and points, rather than the vacuum advance on the Bosch unit I have

Apparantly the advance curve was a ong way out at higher revs so the mod would give better power and be more appropriate for the current engine set up.

I was hoping to get an aftermarket Mallory distributor, but they don't make one for this engine (the advance curve on a Mallory is adjustable)

I thought if I could get another dizzy, that fis the engine, I could adapt it (There are companies that "recurve" distributors such as Aldonauto)

Hi, do yourself a favour and fit the megajolt system to your car. you have a good car and a cracking engine, it just takes a couple of weekends to fit. The difference in driveability is incredible.

Hi

To be honest I would be tempted to just go with some kind of programmable electronic ignition system.

All the best
