Well guys the title says it all. After 7 months of being off the road, and after 4 months' sporadic effort, my car formerly known as Alfa Romeo 33 1.7 QV SportWagon...
...now goes under the name of Alfa Romeo 33 1.7 QV SportWagon 16V!
Can't tell you how happy I am that it worked first time. And it really flies. Never thought I'd get it working so soon, but, obviously, everything worked out.
Will present photos (evidence?) soon. Warning - I haven't sorted the rust patches yet so it still looks a bit dodgy bodywork-wise! Oh well, one thing at a time!
Getting it serviced in a day or two, then MOT'd, then taxed... and I will be bombing about the country roads...
To all of you who helped me do this with tips, figures, facts, just plain common sense (something lacking in me), I can't thank you enough. Catch y'all at a show or something, drinks are on me... _________________ Hugh B

Hi,
It is REALLY a very good project and you deserve congratulations.
I noticed on the photo of the white P4 that there is power steering; why dont you snap in the power steering system to your sportwagon? i think that there are no differences in the setup-your wheel will be more easy now that you have a more heavy front section.
For once again well done!!!

Thanks! Pretty chuffed with it myself. First thing like this I've ever considered doing, let alone attempted! I just hope I don't plough it into a tree because I'm not used to the power yet!
Yes the P4 has PAS. But I've read many stories of the racks leaking and requiring complete replacement. It just seemed like making trouble for myself. Besides I've no trouble with manual steering, all the cars I've ever had have been manual anyway so it's not like I'm not used to it. I've also read that it makes steering at high speeds rather 'jumpy', not to mention taking up engine power constantly, so I thought I'd be best off without it.
I'm keeping it though so it won't be that difficult adding it in future...
BTW I've added a link to my conversion pics/videos at the bottom of my sig... _________________ Hugh B

hi,
Yes power steering is a little trouble if you neglect it.what i mean : the key idea is never let the wheels turned right or left as the boots of the rack are being forced; also never turn the wheel to lock for more than 10 sec. it is very fatal.
Mine rack used to suck all the fluid ; when i was squeezing the boots i was feeling the liguid inside!!! I repaired it with new boots and various elements at a cost of €150.
However the PAS is very accurate and at high speeds i think it helps and does not dissapoint you.
Anyway I think it is a matter of being get used to it.
See you around. _________________ Thanassis Gritsopoulos
