I saw a pic of my steering wheel with a polished alloy inner, I liked the look of it and thought I’d have a go.
I plan on stripping off the lacquer and bleaching the wood, then dying it a silver burch and then re-lacquering it.
Before
After
Sanded down to give a matter look
Think I should go all the way to shiny finish? _________________ x2 33 16v

I agree, kind of looks like rough ally ATM. I have been advised to use autosolve and wet and drive sand paper, think it might take a while _________________ x2 33 16v

Hi
Use VERY fine wet and dry, but as it is steel you will probably need a way to stop it tarnishing rapidly once polished.
Wet and drive might be a good way to pass the time in a traffic jam.
All the best

Too late now lol
I think everything black in the 33's is a bit overkill, so I'm trying to break it up a bit, what about the wood being bleached to a lighter silver birch colour? _________________ x2 33 16v

It looks as if a wooden steering wheel makes you thirsty

??
Just trying to make the best of what I've got.
I've had a momo top sport and I think a wood / lacquered finish is going to be better, as other wheels I've had end up with a funny feel.
Instead of a lighter wood stain, what about a darker stain then?? _________________ x2 33 16v

gotcha
Ok, I will bleach it, stain it silver birch and not lacquer it, if it doesn't look good I can then stain it a darker colour.
I think I will have to get someone to polish the metal as I dont have the correct tools _________________ x2 33 16v
