just quick question,
if you remove the kat and lombard probe thing from your 16v car and fit a different exhaust, could you swope the kat ECU for a none kat 16v ECU.so basicly your turning it back into a pre kat car and getting 5bhp back aswell.does this make sense?? this mite help people with kat car's!

Oh, you mean the lambda probe ...

I wouldn't remove the this one, as it gives a feedback to the ECU. This signal is used to calculate the amount of fuel that should be injected into the cilinders. If you remove the probe or the probe is broken, your car will run rich and I think that's not what you are looking for

P.S. Really wanna loose the lambda probe? Switch to carbs, they don't need it...

I have been told, that the ECUs on 16V boxers with and without kat are the same.

You just have 4 positions for one of the wire connectors on the ECU box, which you must place right.

The 4 positions are:

98 octane and kat
95 octane and kat
98 octane without kat
95 octane without kat

To place the connector right, look in the workshop manual (I do not have it, since I do not own a 16V boxer)

here you can find the different cases explained. Near the ECU (in the passenger footwell on lhd cars) you can find the (in my case) yellow relay shaped thingy which means it's fitted for RON 95 and with cat. If I'd remove the cat I could just remove the yellow device. I believe it automatically takes out the lambda probe also then. Worth a try!

The 16v in my series 2 is none kat, but i was thinking for the future if i get a series 3 16v, i wanted to take off the kat and probe, so what you have wrote should help!
